THE STUDY

What exactly is a study used for these days? Is it the room that you actually study or work in? Or is it the room that is just a display for people to see, like you see at the display homes? Well in my house the study is my Sanctuary. It’s where I go to hide from the kids and it’s where I get all my work done without interruptions, mainly because it is at the very beginning of the house and nobody ever thinks to look there first lol.

When I was told we would have a study I instantly knew what it would look like before I knew what I wanted in the rest of the house. I knew that I wanted it to be a very personal room that represents who I am as an individual but also incorporates the things I love and the people in my life.

I absolutely love black furniture and I adore Hamptons and French provincial style so I decided to turn the study into a modern French with a twist of Hamptons and incorporate our feature colour of duck egg blue. There are so many beautiful pieces in this room so I wouldn’t even know what to call the statement piece but if I had to choose one it would have to be the library. I had always dreamt of a library with a ladder and when I saw this one I knew I had to have it. It is such a beautiful piece, not too classic, not too modern. Just perfect.

As the years go on and I collect more books and fashion magazines I will fill it up and probably change it another 50 times but for now it houses my beautiful coastal decor and a little piece of my husband’s childhood – his encyclopedia collection. Everyone had a set at one stage and as dated as they are, they are a part of our childhood so I made them work in my space.

My beautiful rug that I’m still so obsessed with just completes the space. A rug can do wonders! The room felt so empty without it and I believe I chose the perfect design. It ties in with the black in a very subtle way, yet lightens the room a lot. It is definitely a showstopper and a conversation starter with guests.

The study may seem complete but I have no frames on the wall and my photos are yet to be chosen for the frames. I believe the right artwork is very important so I did not rush this decision and I will collect the pieces as I go and show you all what I have, but for now here is my study 95% complete and one of my favourite rooms in the house. I hope you love it.
