Before becoming parents we had often discussed how we would love to build a house with theatre room. Hubbie’s dream was to convert it into a proper cinema, you know the ones with the black walls, dark curtains and a projector screen? Yeh, well we had kids and he very quickly kissed his dream goodbye and before we knew it, this room was a toy kingdom and they owned it! Ha! But he did get his dark walls, sort of, I mean dark grey is close enough! And that dream was also short lived because I decided it was too gloomy and turned it into a functional living space/cinema room, sorry hubby!
As you probably know by now, I like blue so we got this custom couch made from Helena House interiors and chose a denim blue removable cover so if ever we need a change, it’s as easy as switching the cover to create a whole new look. We had it made to fit the space we had, which was slightly bigger than standard. I wanted this room to have a bit more warmth so I opted for a rug from The Rug Lady and chose one with some more burnt tones of orange, red and blue and found the perfect cushions at Interior Collections and had her custom make the sizes to fit the space and they are such beautiful quality.
We matched the couch with a gorgeous kids version from in a navy blue from Funsquare which we use for movie nights. It is so comfortable! In summer we open it up and it turns into a double size mattress and we just sleep downstairs! It fits perfectly along the side wall and the kids can still see the TV during the day. It’s coated with a special water resistant coating so if we have any spills, it’s an easy clean! And best part is the adults don’t have to share or get kicked off the big couch.
To keep the room flowing with the white living room, I chose this gorgeous blue and white armchair from One world collection and matched it with the same style coffee table but in a large black colour. This table has been used for some fun game night and when the kids have friends over for movies we cover it and create a real life cinema full of treats.
Because I have an obsession with vintage finds, I couldn’t go past this buffet I painted using Jolie Paints in colour Graphite. I have some Kmart baskets I painted to match and we hide some of the kids toys in here so they’re accessible, but out if sight. Works perfectly.
I also had this timber bookshelf I haven’t ever been able to part with so I painted it and styled it up and it just fits so well and houses some of my pretty vintage finds and decor.
Hope you enjoyed the transformation of this space. We love hanging out in here now and it has become hubbie’s favourite room now, go figure!
